You can burn up to 360 calories an hour doing yoga – makes you reach out for your mat, doesn’t it? That’s what an hour’s walking on the treadmill does and with not even half the benefits!  Bet you didn’t know that when you are in a yoga class, you are doing strength training and cardio together? Do it to believe it.

Less is more:
You don’t need to do power yoga to lose weight.  Gentle, restorative yoga is good too – it helps to calm the nervous system. This in turn, helps to calm your hormones, regulates breathing and helps immensely with digestion.  You will notice that you don’t eat impulsively anymore. Start slow and work your way into difficult poses.

Pose away:  Some poses – aka asanas – are especially great in speeding up metabolism.  The Plough, Fish, Shoulder Stands, Upward and Downward Facing Dog and Spinal Twists stimulate the endocrine system which aids digestion.  There are very specific routines for weight loss.  Pay attention to your body and don’t push if you are uncomfortable.
