Tips to Achieve Your Goals and Objectives by Reward Me

Things to do before it’s too late

Ever been asked what you want to do in life? What your goals are? It’s never too late to make a list and start.

Setting goals can help you achieve what you want.  It’s what everyone talks about, from parents to bosses to management books.  Easier said than done!

Some succeed and others don’t – why?  Is it because it’s too daunting?  It needn’t be.  And it’s never too late to start either.  There are definitely some things you still want to achieve or experience, whether it’s a career development plan or a crazy personal desire.

Make goal setting less scary and more result-oriented

SMART Goals: A useful way of making goals more powerful is to use the SMART mnemonic. SMART usually stands for:

S – Specific (or Significant)

M – Measurable (or Meaningful)

A – Attainable (or Action-Oriented)

R – Relevant (or Rewarding)

T – Time-bound (or Trackable)

For example, instead of having "to climb Mt. Everest" as a goal, it's more powerful to say "to climb Mt. Everest by December 31, 2016."

Find what moves you: Money doesn’t motivate you?  That’s okay.  Is it charity work?  Starting your own business?  Think about what moves you and make a list.  Writing down goals provides clarity of thought and shows you if it’s doable.

Future planning:  Been a worker bee all your life and looking at retirement?  Goal setting helps you to become more aware of how to use time effectively.  It’ll also make sure you spend the rest of your life pursuing your passions and doing the things you want to do, instead of regretting not doing them.

Set time restrictions: What if you had only 6 months to live?  How would your priorities change?  This framework for goal setting actually helps you focus on the more important things.  What do you want to learn?  Where would you like to travel?  Who are the important people in your life? Are you spending enough time with them?   Make lists and start checking these off.   Achieving your dreams is so close now.

Create vision boards:  If you are a person who has trouble visualizing your life, there are tools that can help.  Use pictures and draw sketches to create a vision board.  Vision boards are a great tool to create excitement about new projects and goals.  Goals can change – add or take things off the board accordingly.

Be realistic:  It's important to set goals that you can achieve.  Don’t follow goals set by others; they are unaware of your desires, ambitions and capabilities.

Goals bring joy to life

This is your life and you have the power to change it.  You can do what you want and there’s no need to give up on your dreams.  Making lists and setting goals will help you achieve new things you never thought possible.  It’s as much about the journey as it is the goal.  Start small and start discovering the big things you can do.

Share your dreams and ambitions with friends.  Find groups who’re committed to the same cause.  You could also Google a list of self-help books and tools to help you on that path.  When you really start looking around, you’ll be surprised at what you find.  Go for it!
