Pamper yourself and feel better during periods @ Reward me

7 Tips To Overcome Menstrual Pain

Menstruation periods aren’t really the best times, right? You’re moody; you don’t exactly feel radiant, let alone the cramps! Well it might be a good time to take it easy and pamper yourself a little. Here’s how to improve your mood during your period.

7 Effective Home Remedies To Overcome Period Pain:

1. Eat healthy

When we have a period we often feel tired as we lose iron. So try to choose foods rich in iron such as meat, poultry, fish, fortified cereal, enriched rice, and vegetables. B6 is also a great mood enhancer, so fill up on fish, chicken, soy foods, broccoli, bananas, cantaloupe melon, and spinach.

You’ll probably experience a craving for carbs during your period. Go for it! Just make sure you stick with complex carbohydrates such as foods with whole grains, or beans, brown rice, or lentils. You’ll feel better for it.

Also, drink about a litre and a half of water a day. It’ll flush out toxins and make you feel fresh and alert. It won’t be bad for your skin either. And, if you can, try to avoid caffeine and alcohol.

2. Exercise and go for a walk

While lying on the couch may seem like a good idea, taking a walk or riding a bike is a much better. If you suffer from cramps, research shows that exercise can be just as effective as pain medication. Fresh air is always a tonic, just make sure you protect your skin from the sun with a hat, sunglasses and a SPF skin protection product.

3. Fill your home with aromas

Studies show that within four seconds of coming into contact with a scent our brain will trigger a sensory response that’s more immediate than any amount of feel-good movies. So whatever does it for you – hot bread, coffee, jasmine – take advantage. It will be a lot cheaper than a trip to the cinema.

4. Play some music

As we all know music is an incredible mood enhancer. So, ignore the washing up, or that ‘to do’ list. Find a comfortable place to put your feet up, and hit play.

5. Take a hot bath

It’s an old classic, but for sheer relaxation value, it can’t be beaten. Go the whole nine yards: music, candles, and if you’re feeling particularly indulgent, dive into that box of pampering treatments you’ve been hoarding for that ‘special occasion’. You’re special. And the occasion is now.

6. Enjoy a cup of herbal tea

A warm drink, like chamomile tea, can prove incredibly relaxing. A warm milk before bedtime can also help you get a good’s night sleep.

7. Go to bed early

We all need between 7 and 9 hours of good sleep. If you aren’t getting enough, a short nap can work wonders. In fact the humble nap is proven to enhance mood, alertness and performance. Allow yourself fifteen minutes. You’ll be amazed what a difference it can make. Though of course, if you’re always feeling tired, going to bed early is the obvious solution. So treat yourself. If you’re worried about being able to drop off a few drops of Lavender oil on your pillow can help. Chamomile and ylang ylang oil are also wonderfully effective.
