How To Create An At-Home Day Spa

It's raining outside and you and your daughter are in need of a pick-me-up. Why not create an at-home spa where you can both pamper each other and strengthen that mother-daughter bond?

Plan:

You can create a luxurious at-home spa with surprisingly few items.ÿ

The main things you will need are:

  • a container big and wide enough to work as a foot bath
  • toe separators
  • a foot file
  • a nail file
  • a few products like shampoo and conditioner and your favourite nail polish

Step one:

Get some sea salt and some fresh herbs like thyme (which has natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties) and mint (a coolant which can help soothe painful feet) and put some warm water in a foot-bath style container.

Step two:

Add the sea salt and herbs to the water. Use your foot file to file off any dry skin on the soles of your feet before soaking them in the water for five or ten minutes. Be careful to make sure the water isn't too hot or cold.

Step three:

Take your feet out, dry thoroughly and then enjoy a little pre-polish pedicure. If you have an orange stick, use it to push your cuticles back. Take a nail clipper and cut your toe nails ? straight rather than arched ? and use a nail file to shape.

Step four:

Now it?s time to paint your toenails. Use the toe separator to avoid any smudging and then apply your favourite nail polish with vertical strokes. We like Max Factor?s Glossfinity line for high gloss and high glamour. Wait until dry and then apply another coat.

Step five:

While the second coat is drying, ramp up the luxury factor by asking your daughter to shampoo and condition your hair ? try products from the Pantene Natural Fusion line to strengthen and moisten your hair. But remember you have to do the same for her!

Step six:

Rinse out the conditioner and then ask very nicely for a neck and shoulder massage. The idea is to get right to the core of any tension by kneading the base of the neck, the shoulder blades and the upper back with firm but gentle strokes.
