Tips for Effective Weight loss by Reward Me

Eat Your Way To Weight Loss

Think weight loss is all about giving up food? Think again?

No carb.  Low carb.  High protein. No fat.  Tired of the typical diet dictionary?  If you’ve tried any or all of these foods for weight loss and are still fighting the battle of the bulge, you’re back to square one.

Fad diets promise spectacular results in a really short time.  But if you want your weight to stay off for longer, all you need to do is to go for a long walk.  To your kitchen.

1. Lentils and Beans:  These are loaded with protein power and a regular in the Indian diet.  Protein builds muscle.  The more muscle you build, the more calories your body will naturally burn each day at rest.

2. Spices:  Did you know that cooking spices like turmeric, cinnamon and pepper have fat burning abilities?  Cinnamon and honey with lime water is also great for weight loss.

3. Veggies:  Bitter gourd, spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, cabbage and celery are low in calories and high in water and fibre content.  Include these in your diet for weight loss as fibre makes you feel full faster.  Don’t you wish you’d listened to your mum and eaten your veggies as a child?

4. Nuts:  Nature’s most complete food, include these in your diet to get much needed omega 3s and anti-oxidants.  A fistful a day is enough.

5. Fruits:  The adage “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” is really true.  With 4 grams of fibre, this nutritional powerhouse can also be used in salads and desserts.  Include seasonal fruit like mangoes, pineapples and oranges which also satisfy any sweet cravings.

6. Oils:  Oils like sesame, olive and mustard are a healthier option and also add flavour.

7 important tips for weight loss:

  1. Put quality back on your plate.  Cut out processed and junk food.  Eat whole grains and a lot of fruits and veggies.  Yes, the occasional indulgence is allowed.
  2. Drink at least 2 – 3 litres of water a day, even when you’re not thirsty.
  3. Exercise as often as possible.  It’s the secret potion to keep illness and weight off.  You will feel better, eat better, sleep better.
  4. Measure your portions using measuring cups.  If you haven’t bought them yet, eat from a salad plate instead of a regular plate.  You will become more mindful of how much you actually eat.
  5. Snack right.  Snacking isn’t unhealthy.  It’s what you snack on that is.  If you happen to stray, stop moping and start working it off.  Eating fruits can actually help with pandering to your sweet tooth and fill you up at the same time. Make smart choices.
  6. Don’t starve yourself.  Eat small and frequent meals.  This will help to keep your metabolism high.
  7. Hire a personal trainer to stay motivated.  Walking with a friend is a good way to be social and get exercise too.
