Mostly 1s

Your view of yourself is probably consistent with the way that others see you. You have a positive and healthy self-esteem and are not overly critical of yourself.

Mostly 3s

You are on the cusp here. Sometimes you feel adequate in yourself and not ‘less than’ others, but occasionally you have pockets of feeling devalued. You need to watch that you don’t fall into the unconstructive spiral of low self-esteem.

Mostly 5s

You tend to judge yourself harshly against others, and to hold onto any criticism. You spend a lot of time comparing yourself to others and finding yourself wanting. You don’t feel good enough in many ways. You may also tend to pass up on doing things because you are scared of not succeeding.

How to boost your self-esteem

  • Inaccurately negative self-perceptions are likely to be greater with people who are more anxious, and with those who have low self-esteem. If these problems are long-standing, psychotherapy may be useful in trying to improve the way you feel.
  • It may also be useful to keep a collection of compliments given to you by others in a little book. Anything affirming, approving or admiring can be written in the book. It is then available as a resource for you to look at when you are feeling bad about yourself.
