Men’s anti-ageing tips

5 Anti Aging Tips For Men

Staying in good shape not only enhances your looks but also have a better functioning body.

  1. Eat less but better

People who don’t eat to excess live longer and have fewer health problems, research indicates. So avoid putting unnecessary strain on your system by cutting portions and making sure what you do eat positively benefits your body.

There’s no need to starve yourself, simply learn to eat more slowly and learn to recognise the signs you’ve had enough rather than eating until you are stuffed. It takes practice but will help increase your energy levels, cut your food bills and shrink your waistline.

Aim to eat more green and red vegetables - high in anti-oxidants, they help battle the free radicals that can cause disease and lead to premature ageing. Oily fish is another dietary superfood containing Omega-3 fatty acids that help with heart, eye, joint and brain health. Try to eat 2-3 portions a week.

  2. Think skin

Help minimise your wrinkles by drinking more water (why not down a glass every time you reach for a cup of coffee or tea, and match your alcohol intake glass for glass with water too?), and adopting healthy sun habits. Slapping on suncream at the same time as you put it on the kids both sets a good example and keeps you safe from the ageing – and potentially cancerous effects – of UVA and UVB.

Getting into the daily habit of caring for your skin doesn’t have to be time-consuming or difficult either. Use Gillette Fusion ProGlide for a shave that will help keep your skin in great shapeSleep better

  3. Be active

Taking regular exercise is probably your No.1 weapon in the fight against ageing. It increases blood flow – necessary to help keep your skin and other organs supplied with nutrients – strengthens your heart, helps keep down your weight and improves both physical and mental health. Exercise also boosts energy levels and builds muscle. Which is pretty vital, given that you can expect to lose 10% of your muscle mass between the age of 25 and 50.

Short bursts of high impact exercise are believed to be the best way of improving fitness and losing weight. So aim for short sprints rather than long slogs and you’ll see fast results.

  4. Enjoying a sound night’s sleep is more than just psychological – scientists have found it really does slow down the signs of ageing. Good sleepers have skin that recovers better from skin damage, so try and get seven hours straight sleep as often as you can. It’s hard, especially if you have a young family, but how’s this for an incentive: topping up your sleep levels will also increase your testosterone levels. Yes! Going to bed early really can improve your sex life! Case closed.

  5. Think mindfully

Sounds a bit hippy? Think again. Mindfulness is a simple way to help deal with stress and anxiety, and improve your feelings of wellbeing. There are loads of online tips on how to adopt mindfulness techniques, but it’s basically a way of re-connecting with your core in a calming way that helps you focus and put life in perspective.

Stress is known to be ageing, so take a deep breath and…relax…
