If you think it is just about grabbing a razor and shaving it away. But it isn’t. There are many options that you can consider before you grab a razor, and if you do decide to go ahead with it, there are a few pointers that you must keep in mind to shave it right.

Step-by-Step Guide to Armpit Shaving:

  1. Use alcohol to disinfect your razor or electric shaver.
  2. Take a shower or wash your armpit area completely using soap or body wash, to get rid of sweat and deo. Dry completely with a towel.
  3. If the armpit hair is really long, start by trimming it. You can use scissors to snip it or an electric trimmer.
  4. Use a moisturising shave gel and work up the lather.
  5. Wet your razor in warm water for a few seconds and begin shaving. You can use short strokes. Remember to go against the grain for a smooth shave. However, it could cause irritation, in which case shaving in the direction of the grain may be better.
  6. Clean the razor every stroke or two to get rid of the shaved hair.
  7. After you finish shaving, rinse your armpit area and check for any hair that may be left over. If there are any, you will need to apply the shaving gel and shave that area again, and rinse thoroughly.
  8. Pat the area dry with a clean towel.
  9. Use an antiseptic lotion. This is to manage the irritation that is natural when you shave any sensitive area. It also closes the pores.
  10. Pat some talc under the armpit to control sweat and to keep the area dry.

More Armpit Shaving Tips:

  1. Avoid shaving before you head to the pool or beach. Your recently shaved skin may get inflamed easily by the salt and chlorine.
  2. Don’t use your regular soap or body wash. These are drying. A shave gel with moisturiser or a shaving cream is best.
  3. Don’t use a deo right after shaving.
  4. Pulling the skin taut makes it easier to shave.
  5. If your armpit hair grows in different directions, which is the norm, use a razor with a pivoting head and multiple blades.
  6. Don’t use blunt blades. This could cause cuts and ingrown hair.
  7. You may want to shave at night so that it gives your skin enough time to heal without sweat and other conditions aggravating the irritation.

By following these steps, you can get a clean shave and make sure that the sensitive skin under your armpit is left without any inflammation.
