Bring The Birds

Lure feathered friends to your garden with this easy-to-make bird feeder.

You will need:

Tools: Drill with 8mm drill bit


  • scraps of ribbon
  • plastic bowl
  • plastic side plate
  • eye bolt 8 x 300mm
  • 4 x 8mm nuts

TIP: Hang the feeder out of the reach of cats. Tie a thorn twig to the branch as an extra precaution. Remember, you don’ t need to feed birds in summer.

To make:

Step 1 - Using the 8mm drill bit, make a hole through the centre of the plastic bowl.

Step 2 - Drill a hole through the centre of the plastic side plate. The plate helps to protect the food in the bowl from the rain and the bright colour attracts birds.

Step 3 - Fasten a nut on the bolt about 8cm from the eye. Thread the bolt through the plate and add another nut. Tighten the nuts on either side of the plate.

Step 4 - Fasten another nut about 2cm from the end of the bolt. Thread the bolt through the bowl and add another nut. Tighten the nuts on either side of the bowl.

Step 5 - Thread a piece of ribbon through the bolt’ s eye and tie to a tree.

Step 6 - Fill the bowl with seeds and wait for the birds to come.
