9 Herbal Remedies Your Kitchen Garden Is Growing

More and more people are getting concerned about the side effects of allopathic drugs. There are many common herbs in the kitchen which are being rediscovered as an alternative.

Tired of the long list of meds prescribed by your doctor?  Herbal remedies are always an alternative and regarded as the best and safest.  The best part is, some of these are probably already growing in your kitchen garden.  With all the help available on the internet, it is easy to make simple remedies which will make you feel better without the chance of any side effects.

  1. Cilantro:  This is common in many Asian homes.  It is a well-known digestive aid and has the capacity to remove heavy metals and toxins from the body.  It needs cool and moist conditions to flourish.
  2. Mint:  This is such a favourite with many.  Used in toothpastes and mouth fresheners, it packs a refreshing punch.  It helps to relieve indigestion and can be served as tea or as is.  It can also be ground and applied to sore muscles.  Mint loves to grow in moist conditions.  Always pot it or it will take over your garden.
  3. Rosemary:  This fragrant herb is very stimulating.  It is the perfect herbal remedy to sharpen memory and also a good substitute for caffeine.  It thrives in drought tolerant conditions.
  4. Aloe Vera:  This is also an easy plant to grow.  It helps to heal burns and soothes any kind of skin ailment.  It is well-known for its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.   Soothes an upset stomach too.  Doesn’t require much care.
  5. Basil:  This is another great herb to have in a kitchen or garden.  It works well on stomach problems and is known for its anti-bacterial properties.  Flourishes in moist and warm conditions.
  6. Ginger:  This herb is yet another staple in Asian kitchens.  It helps soothe many stomach conditions including nausea and motion sickness.  Easily available in the market.  Research is still on to find out how effective it is in dealing with the after effects of chemotherapy.
  7. Garlic:  Such a common sight in so many kitchens.  It is reported to be effective in lowering heart problems.  It works wonders on reducing colon polyps.  Available in pill form or can be eaten raw for maximum benefits.  Easy to grow as well. Requires sandy soil.
  8. Psyllium Husk:  Commonly known as Isabgol, it’s a great remedy for constipation and loaded with anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it perfect for joint pains.
  9. Turmeric: Yet another staple in Indian kitchens.  It is available fresh and in dried form.  Best known for its antibacterial properties.  Helps relieve arthritis and other ailments.

This is by no means a comprehensive list of herbal remedies, just common items available in most kitchens.  Depending on what you use regularly, plant a herb garden.
