Homemade Candies: 5 Easy Recipes to Satisfy Any Sweet Tooth

The words “homemade candy” can sound intimidating. You’ll be pleasantly surprised, however, at just how easy some sweet treats are to make – no fancy ingredients necessary. We’ll get you into the kitchen whipping out confections in no time with these candy recipes!


Homemade Candy Bars

Ingredients
• Graham crackers
• Peanut butter
• Chocolate chips or almond bark, melted

Instructions
1. Cut graham crackers into individual pieces using a sharp knife.
2. Spread one cracker with peanut butter then place another graham cracker on top of it.
3. Smooth the sides where peanut butter may have seeped out.
4. Use extra peanut butter to make them even all the way around the cracker sandwich.
5. Use small tongs to dip in melted chocolate. Shake off the excess and place on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet and allow chocolate to set.

Easy Turtles

Ingredients
• 12 ounces of unwrapped soft caramels
• 1 1/2 cups toasted pecan halves
• 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate or chocolate chips

Instructions
1. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Arrange pecans in clusters of four with each pecan pointing in a different direction.
2. Microwave caramels until melted, stirring at 30-second intervals. Allow to cool slightly, then drop a spoonful of caramel over the pecan clusters.
3. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave or over a double boiler. Spoon the melted chocolate over the caramel layer.
4. Allow candies to set fully, either at room temperature or in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.

Cake Balls

Ingredients
• 1 box cake mix, any flavor
• 1 container frosting, any flavor
• Almond bark or chocolate chips, melted
• Toppings (chocolate of contrasting color for drizzle, chopped nuts, nonpareils, sprinkles, etc)

Instructions
1. Bake cake according to box directions.
2. Remove cake from oven and while still warm, break up into chunks and place in a large bowl.
3. Crumble cake into crumbs.
4. Add the entire container of frosting to the crumbs and mix until completely combined.
5. Roll mixture into balls and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
6. Freeze for one hour.
7. Melt chocolate or almond bark in the microwave, you can use a tablespoon or so of shortening to the chocolate if it’s too thick.
8. Coat balls in melted chocolate and allow them to set.
9. If adding toppings or drizzle, do this right after dipping in chocolate, before it has a chance to set.

Cookie Truffles

Ingredients
• 1 package sandwich-style cookies
• 1 8-ounce package of cream cheese
• Almond bark or chocolate chips, melted
• Shortening
• Toppings (chocolate of contrasting color for drizzle, chopped nuts, nonpareils, sprinkles, etc)

Instructions
1. Use a food processor to grind the cookies into crumbs and dump those crumbs into a large bowl.
2. Mix the crumbs with the cream cheese.
3. Roll into balls and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.
4. Freeze for one hour.
5. Melt chocolate or almond bark in the microwave, you can use a tablespoon or so of shortening to the chocolate if it’s too thick.

Ingredients
• Chocolate of your flavor choice (bittersweet, white, semisweet, milk, etc)
• Toppings of your choice (nuts, pretzels, dried fruit, coconut, etc)
• Cooking spray

Instructions
1. Prep a 9x13” rimmed baking sheet with cooking spray, and line with parchment, leaving an overhang on ends.
2. Melt chocolate in double boiler or microwave and pour into baking sheet. Spread the melted chocolate in an even layer.
3. Immediately sprinkle toppings of choice over the chocolate. Refrigerate until firm, about an hour. Peel off parchment, and break bark into pieces.
