Before indulging in the sweets, why not start off with savory treats? These simple recipes will be spine-tingling for the whole family. Make mummies out of string cheese and you’ll have everyone shrieking.


Ingredients (serves 4 people)

  1. 100g phyllo pastry
  2. 75g butter, melted
  3. 75g butter, melted
  4. 100g mixed raisins and sultanas
  5. 120ml sugar
  6. 100g slivered almonds, toasted


Directions

1. Preheat the oven to 190°C. Grease a baking sheet.

2. Brush 3 sheets of phyllo pastry with melted butter and layer them on top of one another. Spread half the apples on the pastry.

3. Mix remaining butter, raisins, sultanas, sugar and almonds and sprinkle half over the apples.

4. Roll up, folding the edges in on the second last roll to envelop the filling.

5. Repeat the process with the rest of the pastry and the filling.

6. Transfer to the prepared baking sheet, seam side down, brush with a little more butter and bake for 20 to 30 minutes until the apples are tender and the pastry is golden. Dust with icing sugar to serve.
