Don’t Pay Top Dollar To Clean A Collar. Do It Easily With These 3 Tips.

Shirt collars inevitably gather more grime than the rest of the shirt.

The stubborn ring around collars is a common concern that makes your shirts look rather shabby. How to clean shirt collar stains is a tough question to tackle since collar stains are particularly difficult to remove. Dead skin and the natural oils from your body rub onto the collar of your shirt, which leads to a build-up of yellow and brown dingy grime. What’s more, if you have long hair, any product you use on your hair will leave stubborn residue that will only add to the problem. But don’t stress, help is at hand and you can save your expensive shirts with these expert tips on how to wash shirt collars.

3 Effective Tips to Get Rid of Shirt Collor Stains

1. Mild detergent solution:
Pre-treat the neckline with a mild bleach-free detergent; harsh chemicals can cause discoloration of the shirt fabric. You can use a dishwashing detergent or an oil-control shampoo as they have excellent degreasing properties and stain-fighting powers that are exceptionally effective on collar stains. Take a few minutes to work in the detergent and rub off the stain using your fingers. You could also use an old toothbrush to scrub away at the stain but don’t make it a habit else it may damage the fabric. Let the solution rest on your collar for 30 minutes and follow it up by puttingyour garment in the wash as usual.

2. Lemon juice:
Nature’s best bleaching agent can come to your rescue while treating mucky collars. Spread and soak the affected area in the juice of a freshly cut lemon and place the garment out in direct sunlight for up to an hour. The acidity in the lemon and the anti-bacterial power of sunlight will help bleach out all the unsightly stains. Next, throw the garment into your machine and wash as usual.

3. Baking soda paste:
Mix baking soda and water into a thick-ish paste and gently rub it on the stained area. Using a damp sponge, scrub away the grime and allow the stain to soak for a further 20 minutes before washing. You can add white vinegar to this mixture for stubborn stains. These help loosen up the grime that causes the stain and subsequently erase the stain completely.

Whichever stain removal method you may use, exercise caution while drying; dryers are the number one culprit that cause stains to set in. So, make sure you have exhausted all possible ways to remove the stains before throwing your shirt in the dryer. When all else fails, ask for professional help since they may have advanced stain removers that are not readily available in the market and which can make your shirts good as new.
