Set a memorable birthday party for your kid.

The piñata is a very popular game played at many children’s birthday parties. We give you all the tips needed to make a great piñata, including suitable materials, good timing and key steps.

The piñata consists of a decorated papier-mâché balloon filled with little gifts. Children take it in turns to hit the piñata (while blindfolded), attempting to break it and collect the surprises inside. Find our how-to instructions below.

  • Wallpaper paste
  • Old newspapers
  • A pair of scissors
  • A stapler
  • Sellotape
  • String
  • A needle
  • Paint, coloured crepe paper, ribbons
  • Some sweets, small toys and confetti
  • A blindfold
  • A stick

  1. Make 2 small holes near the opening to feed a large piece of string through. This will be used to hang the piñata.
  2. Fill the piñata with sweets, small toys, confetti and surprises, and fill the hole with the rest of the crepe paper. There you have it, it’s ready to use!

On the big day

All that’s left to do is hang the piñata with the top facing downwards and let the children play!
