Dinner and a movie is a classic date night tradition for a reason. It’s the perfect combo of time to chat and time to relax and cuddle. But even a happy tradition feels tired when you’ve done it over and over. Spice up your date night routine with these cool alternatives to dinner and a movie.

1. Get breakfast. Instead of dinner, head out to breakfast. Schedule early babysitting and share a booth so you can savor some hot coffee and syrup-drenched waffles together.

2. Go bowling. Nothing spices things up like some friendly competition. You don’t have to be any good. Channel your inner teenager and hit the bowling alley together.

3. Go shopping. Before you laugh, try to remember the last time you went shopping without kids in tow. You’ll end up having more fun than you think.

4. Head to a bookstore. If you’re really old-fashioned, you can even go to the library. Pick out something you’ve been dying to read and share a cozy loveseat.

5. Laugh. Buy tickets to an improv show or a comedy show. Both of you will reap the benefits of laughter.

6. Hang out with friends. Who says date night has to be just the two of you? Invite friends over for couples’ game night.

7. Stay home. Send the kids off for an overnight play date and binge watch some TV at home. Make it special with appetizer plates and yummy desserts.

8. Take a day trip. On a weekend afternoon, drive somewhere nearby and play tourist. Every area has hidden treasures. You’ll love the sense of adventure.

9. Spend the night at a hotel. Book a night at a hotel and pretend to be honeymooners. Don’t forget the room service.

10. Paint the town. Check out a pottery or canvas painting studio. Sit close and giggle over your next masterpiece.

11. Go to a game. Even if you don’t like sports, the thrill of a professional sports game will get your heart racing.
