Pairfect! Find The Right Sunglasses For Your Face

Sunglasses make a statement, but if you’re wearing a pair that doesn’t match the shape of your face, you could be killing the look completely.

When choosing a pair of sunglasses, the first thing that attracts us is the shape and style of the frame. But what we should be really judging it against, is whether it suits the shape and style of our face. The right frame can make your features look killer, whereas the wrong ones will err, just kill your drop dead gorgeous looks.

What kind of face do you have?

The round face has curves with the width and length almost the same proportion. As the face has less defined angles, it is best to choose sunglasses for round face which are just the opposite, i.e., with sharp angular lines to make your face look thinner and sharper.

Sunglasses styles: Rectangle, square, wrap and shield.

Square shaped faces generally have the same length and width. A broad forehead and a strong jaw line are the defining features, so round or oval shaped lenses will help soften the sharpness of these features.

Sunglasses styles: Aviators, butterflies, or any frame style with centre or top set temples.

Oval faces are blessed with symmetry, which makes virtually all types of sunglasseslook awesome! Just stay away from oversized frames that hide those perfect features and opt for ones that cover the face from the eyebrows to the cheekbones.

Sunglasses styles: Eyeglass frames that are as wide as (or wider than) the broadest part of the face, or walnut-shaped frames that are not too deep or too narrow.

Oblong faces are rectangular in shape i.e., they are long and narrow. Oversized sunglasses as well as sunglasses with thick frames add the desired width to the face. Avoid small frames.

Sunglasses styles: Large wayfarers, sunglasses with tall or deep lenses and vintage style frames.

A narrow jawline and forehead with broad(and maybe high)cheekbones define this type face. Make sure the frames have gentle curves and do not extend beyond the cheekbones. Oval and rimless frames will help compliment wide or high cheekbones.

Sunglasses styles: Rimless frames or oval and cat-eye shapes.

Almost triangular, heart-shaped faces have wider temples and a narrow chin. Sunglasses designed with wide lower edges and no straight lines work well for this face type group as they elongate the face.

Sunglasses styles: Cat-eye, shield, butterfly, rimless, or aviators.

Now that you know how to pick sunglasses that rightly suit your face shape, here are some other important points that must be ticked off the checklist before you make the purchase.

  • Protection is more important than style: Ensure that the glasses block at least 99% of UVB rays and at least 95% of UVA rays. Excessive exposure to UV radiation can cause cataracts, burns and cancer.
  • Ensure the frame fully covers the eyes: Choose one that fits snugly and does not allow any sunlight to peak in from the top or the sides.
