Your most embarrassing beauty questions answered.

Excessive sweating

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, can be incredibly embarrassing, especially if you have no control over it. Commonly affected areas are the hands, feet and underarms.

According to the International Hyperhidrosis Society, the most successful treatments for excessive sweating are topical lotions or Botox injections.
In severe cases, you could discuss undergoing endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy surgery with your doctor. This is when the nerve responsible for excessive sweating
is cut, clamped or cauterised.

Pimples on your back...

... Or ‘bacne’, tend to occur when too much sebum is produced, causing pores to collect bacteria and block. Hormones, stress and hyperactive sebaceous glands are to blame. It’s imperative to exfoliate your back regularly to get rid of dead skin cells.

Use an exfoliating body scrub, or book in for a ‘back facial’. If you’re experiencing severe acne on your back (including cysts), it’s best to visit your dermatologist.

These are a strain of the human papilloma virus, which changes the DNA of the cells to form “cauliflower-shaped” growths.  They are difficult to treat as most of the lesion is hidden underneath the skin on the bottom of the foot.

Avoid walking barefoot in public bathrooms, saunas and swimming pools, as these are hot zones for a host of nasty infections.
Warts can be quite stubborn to treat so it’s best to find a fix as soon as they appear. There are various ways to get rid of them, from freezing to burning, or nuking them with laser therapy – visit your doctor or podiatrist to see which is best for you.

Nail Biting

Not only do ragged nails look unattractive, this habit can also be bad for your health. The underside of your nails house many germs, which can transport bacteria into your body.

To avoid biting your nails, keep them looking beautiful with a mini manicure kit – you won’t want to wreck manicured nails. Carry the kit with you for on-the-go grooming. You can also buy certain creams, oils and nail polishes that are designed to put you off biting your nails, as they taste awful.
