Tips to avoid Splits and Broken Nails @ Reward me

Split and broken nails

Lots of women suffer from split or broken nails, and despite treating your nails to regular manicures, sometimes cutting them right back is the only option. If you don't want it to get that far, make sure you follow these essential tips.

  • First and foremost, you should never, ever, cut your nails, since this only weakens them and encourages them to split. The best solution is to file them, twice a week with a cardboard file, if possible, since metal files tend to be too harsh.
  • Always file your nails in the same direction to help prevent them from splitting.
  • Massage your nails with hand cream, Vaseline or even olive oil every evening. Just like skin and hair, nails are made up of keratin, and dietary deficiencies can have a significant effect, although treating them with brewer's yeast will help get them back to good health.
  • Be sure to take care of your nails when doing everyday household chores, too. Always wear gloves when washing up since hot water tends to soften and therefore weaken the nail.
  • Avoid nail varnish removers containing acetone at all costs since these are too harsh on the nail and all your care and effort will be in vain!
