Bring Backless Back With These Tips To Remove Back Acne & Blackheads

Back acne, unlike regular acne, is not visible to us and hence is often ignored, which makes it twice as pesky.

Back acne or ‘Bacne’ as some people refer to it, affects quite a lot of people. However, in a day and age where first impressions matter, people tend to worry more about acne and blackheads on the face and completely undermine the seriousness of back acne and back blackheads. It is, however, as prevalent as regular acne, affects as many people and must be treated.

We’ve deconstructed back acne and blackheads to help you get a better understanding of this predicament and how to cure it, if you are affected by it.

First, what is Back Acne?

The back, just like our faces, has thousands of sebaceous glands which produce excess oil (sebum) and can lead to clogged pores. It can take several forms, namely, pimples, blackheads, pustules and cysts, which are painful and form deep under the skin's surface.

What causes back acne?

While every single person’s skin is different and reacts to stimuli uniquely, these are broadly the causes of ‘bacne’ among most people:

- Dairy in particular, is known to cause problems with current acne-sufferers.

- Greasy foods are also bad for skin and can exacerbate back acne.

- Any kind of occlusion, friction or heat.

- Common in people who have acne prone skin.

Beside the last point, which is more of an inherent characteristic of skin and will require a dermatologist’s intervention, the rest of the causes are valuable clues as to what to avoid to prevent the occurrence of back acne.

So, how to treat back acne?

Bear in mind that these are instructions on how to cure mild back acne. For severe back acne, consult a dermatologist for prescription treatment. Cysts can be treated in the office.

Step 1: Wash your back with an anti-bacterial cleanser formulated for the face like Cetaphil. Avoid regular soap. Let skin dry.

Step 2: Follow this up with a 10 % benzoyl peroxide gel or cream. These are available over-the-counter or via prescription. Let it dry.
