5 Before & After Tips To Ensure Waxing Isn’t Taxing.

5 Pre & Post Waxing Care Tips

Uprooting hair from the root is bound to have some effect on the skin. But by taking precautions, you can make sure that it is purely a positive effect.

While waxing is one of the most effective hair removal techniques, it is not without its set of problems. If you don’t heed warnings and take precautions, you could very well wind up with unnaturally reddened skin and worse; scabs. Which is why, it isn’t important to only look for answers to what to do before waxing? Equally important is after waxing care.

Take a look at these 5 before and after waxing tips to ensure a silky smooth waxing experience.

What Should and Should Not Be Done Before Waxing

  1. Avoid showering two hours before your wax. That’s because a shower opens up your pores and makes them vulnerable to infection.
  2. If you’ve recently treated your skin for abrasions, put off a wax until your skin has recovered.
  3. If you’ve recently done a Botox treatment to a particular part of your body, don’t wax that part for at least 72 hours.
  4. If you suffer from varicose veins, diabetes or any skin irritation, avoid waxing until you visit your doctor first and get his/her expert approval.
  5. Patch test your skin to see how receptive it is to waxing. This is essential especially if you are pregnant, on oral contraceptives or on an antibiotics course.

What Should and Should Not Be Done After Waxing

  1. Post your wax, apply powder on your skin. This way the wax will adhere to your hair rather than your skin, thereby minimizing skin redness.
  2. Waxing is literally uprooting hair, and that’s why you need to soothe your skin post the process. Do this by applying a quality cooling aloe based gel and just watch your inflamed skin settle down peacefully.
  3. If you got your eyebrows waxed then soothe the skin in and around that area by using tea bags that have been brewed and then cooled.
  4. Applying mineral makeup post a wax helps cover up the freshly waxed area without being harsh on your skin like foundation and concealer are.
  5. If, even after taking these precautions, your skin is still extremely painful, bleeds or scabs for prolonged periods, visit a doctor immediately. This is not a situation to be trifled with.

Try to make your waxing appointments on the same date each month, and make sure you exfoliate your skin in the interim period between two visits. Once you start following this routine, you will notice that waxing slowly starts to become less painful. However, if you wait longer than 4 weeks to get your next wax, your hair will become longer, which in turn will make the removal process more painful.
