4 Natural Ways to Get Rid of Brittle Nails

Learn How To Get Rid Of Brittle Nails in 4 Natural Ways

Do you hide your nails from people? Are you ashamed of those broken ends that just don’t seem to listen to you? Fret not, I’ve got answers. All I ask is for some time from you.

I am a bit of a vain person. I might not have drop-dead gorgeous looks, but I come across well-presented. Take my hands, for instance. When I raise them to stop a cab, or to write a cheque, or to hold a glass or cup, or to gesture while talking, I feel confident. My hands, with their well-kept nails and soft skin, while not the reason to achieve my immediate goal, at least don’t make me self-conscious.

But I wasn’t always like this. I had terrible, ugly, brittle nails. And I would be anxious about what people would think on seeing them. And that made the situation worse, because, like all nervous people, I would bite them.

Then I read about some simple home remedies which helped cure me of my problem of peeling nails. But what causes brittle nails in the first place?

The reasons could be many. It could be a genetic condition (sorry!) like hyper or hypothyroidism, or aging; skin problems like psoriasis, eczema or fungal infections; or just bad habits such as overuse of nail polish, constant exposure to water or an unhealthy diet.

Do you, like me, also suffer from brittle nails? Instead of running to your dermatologist or cosmetologist, why don’t you run back home? You can find brittle nails treatment in your kitchen cabinets.

So, without further ado, presenting my favourite home remedies for brittle nails:

#1 Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is delicious and comes loaded with vitamins, calcium, potassium and iron. It is nature’s antidote to weak and brittle nails.

  • Soak your fingers for a few minutes in a solution made from equal amounts of the vinegar and water.
  • Push your cuticles back gently to prevent overgrowth.
  • Few minutes every day, for a few days, and you will notice your nails getting stronger.

#2 Oil Massages

I love oil massages. Don’t you too? Get your hands on a bottle of either vitamin E oil, coconut oil or olive oil.

  • Massage your nails with the oil gently for a few minutes.
  • You can warm the oil if you wish.
  • If you do this at night, leave the oil on for best results.
  • Don’t forget to wear gloves to prevent oil stains on your lovely bedsheet.

#3 Take your nails out for a drink

You can use the freshly-extracted juice of a lemon or an orange to strengthen your nails.

  • Apply the orange juice directly to your nails.
  • Leave it on for a few minutes before washing it off with a gentle cleanser like Olay Regenerist Revitalising Cream Cleanser.

For the lemon juice remedy, add a few drops of olive oil and soak your fingers in the solution for 10-15 minutes.

#4 Green tea, anyone?

  • Brew yourself a cup of antioxidant-rich green tea.
  • Let the brew cool down a bit. No, don’t drink it.
  • Simply soak your nails in this solution for 10-15 minutes.
  • Do this nail therapy twice a week for amazing results.

As easy as 1, 2, 3, isn’t it? You can start these remedies right now, without needing to purchase expensive products. Goodbye brittle nails; hello new you!
