3 Hairstyle & Makeup Tips For Summer Weddings

Is your summer full of weddings? Keep your look fun and fresh with our 3 creative ideas.

Summer means lazy afternoons by the pool, beach barbecues, sweltering temps and tons of weddings! With so many weddings to attend, you'll want to look great and have fun with your style — while, of course, not outshining the bride. Here are three unique wedding looks straight from the runways guaranteed to turn heads, whether it's your first wedding of the season or your fifteenth.

Bold Eyeliner and Shadow:

The unfortunate oh-so-80's stereotype of blue eyeshadow has been forgotten — models walking the runways now sport bold and beautiful eye colors in every shade of the rainbow. It can seem a bit trickier to wear day to day, but the reality is that vibrant hues make a face look fresh.

Here’s how to get the look:

  1. Choose a "look at me" shadow shade that still flatters, like electric blue or sea foam green. We love COVERGIRL Flamed Out Shadow Pots — try them in a color like Turquoise Glow.
  2. Pat the shadow onto your eyelids using a brush (fingers work, too!) and blend into the crease.
  3. Apply a neutral, shimmery shadow to the crease for a beautiful contrast.
  4. Apply pencil eyeliner, in a similar blue shade, to your top lash line (and bottom if you’re feeling daring), including the inner rims.
  5. Finish the look with a black mascara like COVERGIRL Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara.

Orchid Lips:

One of the biggest trends on the Spring 2014 runway was orchid-colored lips, thanks to Pantone’s color of the year, Radiant Orchid. Although this fuchsia, pink and purple shade is vibrant and attention grabbing, it’s surprisingly wearable. (Try it and you'll see! We loveCOVERGIRL LipPerfection Lipcolor in Spellbound.)

Here’s how to get the look:

  1. Start by applying a lip liner in the same color as your lips — fill in your entire lip, not just the outline, as this will help your lip color stay on longer.
  2. Use a lip brush to paint the color on your lips, making sure to stay within the lines. (Because Radiant Orchid is so bold, you'll want your lips to look perfect, not messy. Spend some extra time here.)

Tip: If you're worried about getting lipstick on your teeth, put your index finger in your mouth and slowly pull it out. It'll remove any residual lip color that might migrate onto your teeth later in the night.

Faux Bob:

The faux bob is genius. It allows you to completely transform your look without making the huge commitment to chop. We find bobs to be sleek, sultry and very 1920s — you’ll want to dance all night to jazz in this hairdo.

Here’s how to get the look:

  1. Pull up the top half of your hair above the ears and temporarily secure it with a clip.
  2. Fold remaining hair on the bottom until it meets your scalp, and then secure it with bobby pins. (Two-inch sections of hair will ensure the pins stay put.)
  3. Unclip the top layer of hair. If your hair is layered, you're in luck and good to go! If your hair is all the same length, roll it underneath and pin under the bottom.

Don't worry if the look isn't perfect. A faux bob is all about style, so work it!
