10 Cosmetics No Bridal Vanity Case Can Do Without, Ever.

10 Cosmetics No Bridal Vanity Case Can Do Without, Ever.

Every bride needs the right cosmetics in her vanity bag, at all times. But with so many choices, how do you splurge, wisely?

Shopping is fun, and shopping for your wedding, even more so. The choices are incredible and, wonder of wonders, no one bats an eyelid when you decide to splurge.

However, it is easy to get carried away when shopping for makeup to fill your bridal vanity box with. Ooh, the colours, the shades, the textures! No one would blame you for indulging, except perhaps yourself when you look at the collection in your vanity kit a few months later and notice the expiry date long gone. Cosmetics, unfortunately, have a short shelf life. Throwing away good (and expensive) products is heart-breaking.

10 Must-Haves for your Bridal Vanity Case

1. Primer & foundation

If you’re regular with your makeup, buy a good primer. This keeps the foundation from clogging up your skin and also holds makeup longer.

Choose a foundation for your skin type and colour. Don’t buy more than one; foundation has a short shelf life and anyway, even with regular use, you won’t use more than a bottle in a year.

2. Powder

If you have combination skin (an oily T-zone – forehead and nose) then loose, translucent powder is a good way to fend off the oiliness. You can also get a powder-plus-foundation formula, if you don’t wish to carry multiple products.

3. Blush

Want to accentuate your bridal blush? Indulge in one-two blushes in shades of pink/peach. Not more. These will last you a long time.

4. Eye Shadow

The colours! How do you choose?! We recommend picking a palette – smaller amounts, but many shades for you to play with. You might not get one in India, so pick it up when you travel abroad.

5. Eye Liner

Liquid, gel, pen tip or pencil? Depending on your confidence, you can go either from an easy-use-pencil to a slightly tougher liquid liner. The advantage of a pencil is that you can get many colours.

6. Kajal Pencil

A swipe of the kajal pencil can make you feel like a hundred bucks in a jiffy. Even with no other makeup. Invest in a basic black, and also blue, green, silver for various dresses and occasions.

7. Eyelash Curler and Mascara

An eyelash curler / mascara can make your eyes pop. Don’t buy more than one as this needs to be thrown away every three months, whether you’ve used it all or not. Mascara is one of the fastest makeup products to ‘go bad’.

8. Lipstick, Lip Pencil & Lip Glosses

You can never have too many lipsticks, but if you’re new to using them, start with 2 or 3 and stick to shades in pink, red, purplish and peach. Pick a lip liner in a universal shade except for the red – that must match the lipstick exactly.

A lip gloss can be worn by itself or over the lipstick. Pick up more than one if you use them more often.

9. A Set of Makeup Brushes

Never use your hands to apply makeup. You will end up transferring all the germs from your hands onto your skin, and that’s what causes skin infections. A set that includes good quality brushes for foundation, blush, eye shadow (application and blending) and lipstick is a good investment.

10. Makeup Remover

You must remove all makeup before you go to sleep. You can use makeup wipes, branded makeup removers, or even olive oil or baby oil to remove every last bit of the makeup.
