10 Best DIY Treatments for Your Best Body Ever

These easy DIY treatments are worth trying at least once. The only consequence? The best body ever! And better still, most of the ingredients you need are found in the kitchen.

1. Avocado hair mask

The best treatment for frizzy hair is something that has both oils and proteins – all conveniently found in an avocado! They are rich in vitamins C, E & K, folic acid and healthy oils which are great for nourishing your hair. After shampooing your hair and squeezing out excess water, massage half a mashed avocado and let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing. You can do this once every two weeks.

2. For dry hair

As a cheap and wonderful smelling hair treatment, try coconut butter, which can be found in the wholefoods or organic aisle at your supermarket or specialty shops. It should be organic, extra virgin and cold pressed and not processed. Coconut butter will melt into liquid at body temperature, so warm it in your hands before spreading it through the entire lengths of your hair just before you head to bed. To prevent the oils from transferring to your pillow or face as you sleep, wear a shower cap. Rinse and shampoo it off thoroughly the next morning. Clear your skin and moisturize it at the same time with a simple honey and lemon mask. Honey is naturally antioxidant and antibacterial, while lemons help to gently exfoliate dead skin cells and clear blackheads.

Mix a tablespoon of raw, unprocessed honey with about the juice of half a lemon, depending on how thick or runny you want your mask to be. Apply the mix on your face but avoid the eye area, leaving it for 15-30 minutes. Wash it off with warm water and with a rinse of cold water at the end to help tighten your pores. 4. Nourishing face massage

Massage a few drops of pure, extra virgin olive oil into your face and neck to revitalize and nourish your skin - just make sure you have clean and dry skin before doing so! Olive oil contains vitamins A & E, and a potent antioxidant called hydroxytyrosol. It helps prevent free radical damage on skin cells, so this is a great anti-wrinkle treatment. 5. Relaxing facial steam

Mimic the calming effects of a sauna by doing a simple facial steam. Drop a few essential oils of your choice into a wide, shallow bowl of hot water and lean over it, covering your head with a towel. Close your eyes and breathe in slowly and deeply until the water cools. Tip: Be careful not to burn your face – don’t lean in too much or use scalding hot water.

6. Natural teeth whitener

If you are looking for a fast and cheap method of whitening your teeth, try using strawberries. The berries contain malic acid, which is a tooth-whitening agent. Crush one strawberry into a pulp and mix well with half a teaspoon of baking soda. Using your fingers or toothbrush, brush the mixture onto your teeth and leave it on for 5 minutes – don’t worry if you end up swallowing a little bit of the mix as it’s all natural. Brush your teeth as per normal after rinsing your mouth. Limit use to once a week, as the acid in the strawberry may erode your teeth enamel if used too often.

7. Baby-soft hands

You don’t have to use expensive hand cream to get baby-soft hands. Make the most of the humble cold cream or basic moisturizer by using your body heat to help soak all of it up. Simply wear rubber gloves after massaging your cream in and leave it for about 30 mins or longer. After you’re done, lightly blot any remaining residue with tissue paper and air dry your hands.

8. Milk foot soak

Our feet tend to be the most neglected, despite abusing them by squeezing into heels and running around for an entire day. Give them some TLC with a simple and luxurious milk soak a la Cleopatra. Milk contained vitamins A, D and E and the fats in proteins found in whole milk help to hydrate and moisturize your skin.

Fill a shallow basin with water as warm as you can stand. To it, add 4 cups of warm whole fat milk, 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt and a few drops of an essential oil of your choice. Soak your feet in the footbath for about 20 minutes. Rinse your feet with water after so you aren’t left with a sticky residue.

9. Homemade scrubs

Why buy a scrub from the stores when you can make your own? All you have to do is mix half a cup of granulated sugar with honey and coconut or olive oil in a container until you get a thick paste. As the scrub is very moisturizing, limit use as a face scrub to once a week, or twice a week if you have oily skin. It can also be used as an all-over body scrub. Avoid keeping the scrub in the fridge as it will harden.
