Fight 3 Common Hair Problems With These Home Remedies

Despite all the care you take of your hair to prevent it from falling, greying or thinning, you cannot avoid the damaging effects of pollution, stress and age. Or can you?

Every Indian woman is brought up to believe that thick, healthy hair is one of the measures of her beauty. Which is why, hair care is more than just a regime; it is a respected rite of passage between a mother and her daughters. But however hard you try, as you grow older, you’ll find yourself facing various hair problems due to many factors such as:

°         Melanin deficiency

°         Hereditary disorder

°         Stress

°         Unhealthy diet or eating habits

°         Excessive use of chemical-filled hair care products

°         Dependence on alcohol and tobacco

°         Medication

°         Erratic lifestyle

°         Allergies

While you may not be able to avoid most of these, you can certainly protect yourself with these home remedies that offer long lasting hair problem solutions.

Greying of hair is one of the most embarrassing conditions for women as it belies their age. What is worse is that the cases of premature greying are on the rise with even teenagers and people in their 20s falling prey to it.

Lemon andAmla Powder Hair Mask

Amla (Gooseberry) is a rich source of vitamin C and contains an anti-aging formula that reduces melanin pigment deficiency. Lemon’s antibacterial, anti-fungal and antioxidant properties are effective in curing hair fall, damaged hair and white hair problems.

To the juice of a lemon, add two teaspoons of water and four teaspoons of amla powder and mix well till a paste is formed. Set aside for an hour. After that, massage onto your scalp and hair roots and leave for 20 to 25 minutes. Wash off thoroughly with clean water, but avoid using chemical based shampoo and soap (herbal variants are allowed) as this will only counter its effects. Use this once in four days and you’ll see the results in a few months.

This may come as a surprise but onion juice is a vital ingredient in most hair fall tonics. It has shown clinical results in treating hair fall as it stimulates hair growth by increasing blood circulation in the scalp.

Onion Juice Hair Tonic

Blend one large onion and filter the juice from the pulp. Apply to scalp and leave for an hour. Wash off with a herbal shampoo but read the label to ensure that it does not contain any Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. Onion juice has a pungent odour which can be putting off but this can be easily be masked by adding a few drops of rose water to it.

Follow this procedure once in 2-3 weeks depending upon the severity of the hair fall. In extreme cases, frequency can be reduced to once a week.

Healthy hair has a moist and shiny look due to an outer layer that contains natural oil. When this layer gets damaged, the hair loses its sheen and wilts to look dull and dry.

Egg & Vinegar Mask

Eggs are powered with proteins, fatty acids as well as fat-soluble vitamins; this makes them burst with nutrition. Eggs also cleanse and condition which can add life into dry hair.

Take 3 eggs, a single teaspoon of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of olive oil and mix thoroughly till the liquid turns viscous. Apply to your hair and cover with a plastic cap (this will also prevent you from passing out from the smell) for about half hour. Rinse off with a mild shampoo and water.
