3 Secrets to Healthy Hair!

Between the cold, the sudden changes in temperature, the damp and the rain, winter isn't exactly good news for our hair! With this in mind, the arrival of spring is the ideal time to whip it back into shape. Try these useful tips for giving your hair its splendour and vitality back.

Eliminate the winter toxins

The key to this is to massage your scalp. This helps boost blood circulation, thus oxygenating the hair fibre.

How?

  • On wet hair: Gently massage the scalp with the fingertips whilst shampooing your hair and apply light pressure to the temples, brow line and ear contours.
  • On dry hair: Place your hands on your head, one on top of the other, and apply firm pressure whilst you slide them upwards, as if trying to grab the scalp. Do this twice a week. Start from the nape of the neck to the crown and do this for 1-2 minutes. For greater effect, and time permitting, try placing a hot, wet towel on your head beforehand to dilate the blood vessels. Simply pour some water onto the towel, wring it out and microwave for 30 seconds.
Stimulate growth

Just like autumn, spring is another time when we lose more hair than usual, and there's nothing we can do about it - it's physiological and the same thing will happen with the start of every season! Don't panic, though - you can boost the growth of your hair to keep it just as thick and abundant as it was before!

How?

  • Make sure you adapt your diet to nourish your locks:
    • Zinc and magnesium for increased keratin levels. e.g. seafood, lentils, wholemeal bread, cocoa, almonds, etc.
    • Iron to increase oxygen flow to the roots. e.g. parsley, black pudding, calf's liver, spinach, etc.
    • Protein to strengthen the hair. e.g. sole, tuna, cheese, cooked ham, chicken, beef, egg yolk, etc.
    • Group B vitamins for good hair growth. e.g. mushrooms, cereals, etc.

For even better results, you might also like to try a special 'anti-hair-loss' food supplement treatment and apply phials of Aminexil to the roots after shampooing to strengthen the hair.
  •

You might not know it, but rum also has real strengthening properties. Add two soup spoons of rum to your mask when applying for stronger regrowth.
Don't forget the cocooning stages
Hair is a substance that needs to be preserved and there are various products and tools that will gently protect it and prevent it from weakening. Your hair will certainly thank you for it!

How?
  •
It may sound obvious, but start by shampooing your hair at appropriate intervals. Washing your hair every day stimulates the sebaceous glands, thus making the hair greasy quicker.
  • The solution? Shampoo your hair a maximum of 3 times a week, alternating only with a rinse in warm water, for example, or dry shampooing for those who simply want to wash it. And if you suffer from oily hair and think washing it everyday will help solve the problem then that is not the case. Washing oily scalp everyday creates more problems.
  • Choose a boar's hair brush. This will be the least aggressive on the hair and most closely resembles keratin. When it comes to untangling, however, nothing beats a wide-toothed comb, which won't break the hair fibre.
  • If you haven't already done so, invest in a professional hair-dryer with at least 1500 watts and several speed and temperature settings. No more heat-damaged hair!
