Don’t Flake Out – 7 Home Remedies For A Flaky Scalp
No more head scratching over a flaky scalp. No more embarrassment.
Does your scalp feel itchy often? Notice small white flakes on your t-shirt? Does your hair seem dull and limp? These are all signs of a dry flaky scalp. A flaky scalp indicates low levels of sebum, which is vital in keeping your hair and scalp moisturised. When the scalp is ribbed of this moisture, it turns itchy and flaky and can lead to several hair related problems such as dandruff, lice, hair loss and sometimes fungal infections.
Even though an itchy scalp is not a dire problem, it can be uncomfortable. Eliminate the stress, the discomfort and the constant scratching with these
7 home remedies for flaky scalp:
1. Coconut Oil:
One of the safest and gentlest remedies for flaky scalps – coconut oil is a natural moisturiser for your scalp and has anti-viral properties as well. For best results, choose virgin coconut oil. Warm it before applying it. Spread the warm oil evenly on your scalp using firm, circular movements. By doing this, the oil is absorbed into your scalp and moisturises it. Follow this routine every day for 15 days.
2. Lemon Juice:
We’ve lost count of the multiple benefits of lemon juice. But it is true that lemon juice works wonders for an itchy, dry scalp. It is a natural exfoliant that helps remove flakes and dry skin from your scalp. If you apply it regularly, it has proven to be very effective in preventing dandruff. All you need to do is pour the juice (carefully) on your scalp. Leave it on for a few minutes and then wash it off with Head and Shoulders shampoo.
3. Apple Cider Vinegar:
If there was ever a magic potion for your hair – apple cider vinegar would be it. It is anti-inflammatory, it restores the PH balance of your scalp and as an added bonus, makes your hair shiny and strong. Simply mix one part apple cider vinegar with one part water and use it as the final rinse when you wash your hair.
4. Aloe Vera:
Aloe Vera is associated with soothing and healing properties – which is exactly what a dry scalp needs. It’s a well-known moisturising agent, and is successful in treating different bacterial and fungal infections that lead to a flaky scalp. Its cooling properties also reduce the amount of heat in the scalp – preventing flakiness and hair fall. For this remedy, squeeze fresh aloe vera gel from the plant and massage it onto your scalp. Keep it on for a few hours before rinsing it out of your hair.
5. Egg White and Curd:
Separately, egg and curd are two powerful home remedies for hair. Combined, they become even more effective. Egg is rich with proteins and nutrients that strengthen your scalp and the follicles of your hair. Curd is a rich moisturising agent and rids the scalp of dirt and dead skin cells. For this remedy, all you need is a cup of curd and the egg white from one egg. Mix it well and coat your scalp with it. Leave it on for half an hour and wash it off with shampoo. You can repeat this remedy thrice a week to see positive results.
6. Tea Tree Oil:
Tea Tree Oil comes loaded with anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. For this remedy, all you need to do is regularly apply the oil to your scalp. Leave it on for half an hour and wash it off. You’ll feel the difference soon.
