Holi - Proof Your Hair @ Reward Me

5 Essential Before & After Holi Hair Care Tips That You Need To Follow

Who doesn’t love Holi! Who doesn’t hate its aftermath? Whether the colours are natural or synthetic, you can safeguard your hair from their damaging effects.

Holi is a good time to let your hair down.  Not quite literally, especially if you have to deal with water guns, water balloons and even coloured powder.  There are simple ways to ward off the damage that the colours can do – before and after playing - without compromising on fun.

5 Important Hair Care Tips That You Must Follow Before Holi:

  1. Use hair oil generously. Chemicals used in colours can make hair really brittle and also dry out the scalp.  Use coconut oil or a mix of oils like castor, almond, olive and coconut oils before and after the festival.  It might not be a bad idea to leave the oil in.  This will prevent the residue from dyes from sticking to your hair and scalp.
  2. Add an extra layer by covering your head with a scarf.
  3. If you don’t like the idea of having oil in your hair all the while, get a hot oil hair massage with coconut oil or a mix of rosemary, jojoba and olive oil.  This provides great nutrition to hair.
  4. Braid your hair or tie it up.  Loose hair will retain a lot more colour which takes longer to wash out and more shampoo, which could dry the scalp.  If water guns and balloons are being used, tying up hair could protect it from breaking.
  5. If your scalp is sensitive, add some lemon juice to water and massage the scalp.  Doing this will help to minimize infections that could happen due to chemicals in the colours.

After Holi Hair Care Tips To Tackle The Side Effects Of Color

  1. The first thing to do as soon as you hit the shower is to rinse your hair thoroughly with plain water to make sure that the colour washes out.  Then use a mild shampoo followed up with a good conditioner.
  2. If you find that the colour doesn’t come out in the first wash, let it be and shampoo in a couple of days.  Make sure to oil your scalp and hair before doing so.
  3. Go easy on the shampoo during this time so that the scalp and hair don’t get too dry.
  4. Use coconut oil every day on your hair for the next 3 days (for at least 3 hours before you shampoo it).
  5. Use a conditioning hair pack.
