3 Amazing Hairstyles That Will Complement Your Saree

1. Fishtail Braid

You’re familiar with the standard plait. The Fishtail Braid is another version of this and makes for an elegant hairstyle on saree, irrespective of the shape of your face.

  1. Gather all your hair and tie into a ponytail at the base of your neck. Secure with an ordinary rubber band which can be snipped off later.
  2. Divide the ponytail into two equal sections.
  3. Separate a small section of hair from outside of the band and bring it across the other side, overlapping it like when you tie a standard braid. Holding both sections, tighten the plait.
  4. Repeat on the other side.
  5. Keep pulling small sections from each side to cross over into the inside of the opposite section; this creates the fishtail effect.
  6. Continue steps 3 & 4 till you reach the end of the hair and tie.
  7. Now snip off the first rubber band.

2. The Simple French Twist

Whether it’s a simple day at work or a glamorous social occasion, the French Twist is one of the most elegant hairstyles for saree that lends an air of sophistication.

  1. Gather your hair on one side and pin at the back of your head to keep it tight. Use heavier pins if your hair is voluminous or thick.
Note: If you want the twist from left to right, brush it to the left side and vice versa if you want the twist from right to left.
  2. Lightly spray hairspray all over your hair; don’t worry about the stiffness.
  3. Brush your hair gently to the side placing your hand underneath the hair so as not to dislodge the pins.
  4.  Lightly grasping the hair, twist in the opposite direction that you swept it.
  5. Tuck in the ends or leave them stray for a casual look. The hair should look like a cone pointing downward.
  6. From underneath the twist, pin to hold the hair in place by curling into the twist and to the hair underneath it. This will hide the pins.
  7. Pat any stray hairs in place and spray hairspray to hold.

3. Side Swept Curls

It’s the stuff that Hollywood and Bollywood stars are made of. Side Swept Curls are a quick and simple Indian hairstyle for saree that will make heads turn and keep them turned.

  1. On slightly damp hair, apply a hair gloss; this will make your hair look sleek and shiny. Make sure that you apply this only to the entire length of your hair strands and not your scalp.
  2. Using a curling iron, wrap a one inch section of your hair around the barrel. Depending upon whether you want full curls or only the bottom half, start curling from there.
  3. Now comb all your hair to one side and apply hydrating gel. If the curls do not seem voluminous enough, you can create some more.
  4. Shake your head to let the curls fall naturally.
